Honorable Mention(s)

No longer hidden per se, Muramasa The Demon Blade has become retroactively popular for its gorgeous art style, weapon styles and techniques, and traditional Japanese elements.

05: Wario Land Shake It!

The entire Wario series has largely flown under the radar and this title is yet another exceptional entry, with hand drawn art style, unique abilities separating combat from Mario, and integrated Wiimote shaking.

04: Dead Space Extraction

While the light gun zombie shooter scene was dominated by House of the Dead and Resident Evil, Dead Space brought a thrilling survival horror narrative and its engaging formula of aiming at specific body parts.

03: Batman The Brave and the Bold

Based on a cartoon nobody watched, WayForward crafts an exceptionally clever beat 'em up with multiple playable characters and unlockable talents to upgrade abilities. Surprising in-depth and hella fun.

02: OneChanbara Bikini Zombie Slayers

Though a ridiculous B Movie premise, this hack 'n slash game is part of a successful Japanese franchise. Play as a hot chick who murks zombies with swords, guns, and special abilities. Some good fun.

01: Rage of the Gladiator

Punch-Out in a fantasy kingdom, this WiiWare title utilized the Wii Motion Plus to deliver properly timed attacks and dodges against formidable foes. With added magic and talent trees, this game is high quality!
